MS EXCEL XP LEVEL 2

Important Prerequisite:  You must pass the MS Excel Prove It!® Test in order to register for this workshop.

MS EXCEL XP LEVEL 2 is an intensive 2-day computer workshop.  It includes a morning instructor-led session and an afternoon lab. It will generally follow this agenda:

DAY 1
 
9:00-9:30 Introduction, attendance, quick overview of concepts and techniques to be used later in the workshop
9:30 - 10:30 Working with templates
Sorting and filtering data
10:30 - 10:45 BREAK
10:45 - 1:00 Sorting and filtering data (continues)
Importing and exporting data
1:00-2:00 LUNCH BREAK
2:00-4:00 LAB (participants have a chance to practice the material taught in the morning session)
 
DAY 2
 
9:00-9:30 Warm-up and review of difficult material from Day 1 (if needed)
9:30-10:30 Working with advanced formulas (sharing data among worksheets, using functions, using Formula Auditing toolbar to trace cell precedents and dependents; tracing errors)
10:30-10:45 BREAK
10:45-1:00 Analyzing data (using PivotTables and PivotChart reports, creating scenarios, using Solver and Goal Seeker)
Collaborating (inserting and editing hyperlinks and comments)
1:00-2:00 LUNCH BREAK
2:00-4:00 LAB (participants have a chance to practice the material taught in the morning session)

PREREQUISITES

  1. Attention to details and good ability to follow written instructions

  2. Solid basic computer skills:
    • opening and closing a program
    • clicking, double-clicking and right-clicking
    • selecting (highlighting) text
    • minimizing and maximizing windows
    • scrolling up and down, left and right
    • finding files on and saving them to a floppy or hard drive
       
  3. Previous experience with Excel 2002 or 2003 (at least 10 hours) and familiarity with the following:
    • Entering and editing data in a worksheet
    • Saving a workbook
    • Moving around in a worksheet
    • Using the right mouse button
    • Moving and copying data
    • Filling cells with series of data
    • Inserting and deleting rows, columns and worksheets
    • Creating formulas
    • Finding and replacing data
    • Summing ranges of data
    • Using AutoCalculate
    • Using built-in functions
    • Copying formulas
    • Using an absolute reference
    • Formatting data in cells
    • Changing column width and row height
    • Aligning cell contents
    • Merging and centering cells
    • Formatting worksheet tabs
    • Repositioning worksheets in a workbook
    • Creating and formatting charts
    • Setting print titles
    • Creating a header and footer
    • Inserting and removing page breaks
